Another Love

As mentioned before I’ve been trying to incorporate Morse Code into my art for quite a while, it has a strong connection to my very proud days as a reserve soldier. When I create a lot of my Portraits they start out as black and white stencils. Sometimes the stencils are created from a “traditional” photograph and sometimes from a generative image.
Then I can create layers and paint into the black areas, which are effectively a masks, any thing outside the mask will not be painted on, but then I just create new layers without a mask and keep adding. Blending the layers with the adjustment filters often creates some surprising results, and I love the randomness that this technique often gives me.
Blending in the Morse code creates this feeling of ambiguity – I’m not worried if someone doesn’t read Morse, they will find the answer if they want to, and in any case its generally in the title or the artwork, and definitely written on the back!
